Are you interested in how natural gas gets to your home and who transports it?
We are responsible for the transportation of natural gas throughout Germany, and with our long-distance pipeline network covering over 12,000 km, we are one of Germany’s leading gas transmission companies. Every day our 1,450 employees work to ensure natural gas is available at all times. In addition, we also offer comprehensive services for other companies and carry out research into future-oriented transport solutions for natural gas.
Just as a haulage company has to regularly check and maintain its trucks before long journeys, we too have to keep our pipes and compressors in order to be able to guarantee smooth transmission. Our technicians and mechanics use state-of-the-art equipment to ensure a flawless gas network and take mobile compressors to jobs all over the country. They also take care of the maintenance of our plants – including, for example, the turbines of the compressor stations.
An apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic with a parallel degree course at Open Grid Europe will be anything but boring. With us, you’ll learn to understand technical drawings, to work professionally with various tools and to use modern machines, like a computer-controlled lathe, to produce workpieces. You operate machines and systems and are likewise involved in their maintenance and servicing. In addition, you will use cutting-edge measuring devices to control the quality of your workpieces down to the millimetre. The training will give you a feeling for the precise, accurate work that will be an essential part of your future profession. When sawing, drilling, welding and cutting, compliance with the occupational safety guidelines is a key element of the training plan. Only this way can you guarantee the safety of your work, but also the preservation of your own health. Instead of a vocational college, you will attend Bochum University of Applied Sciences, where you will consolidate your knowledge of mechanical engineering and mechatronics. The content of your degree will include, for example, thermodynamics, construction technology and materials technology.
If you are committed and motivated and like the idea of a varied apprenticeship and tackling new challenges, then an apprenticeship with a parallel degree course at Open Grid Europe could be the right option for you!
