With their pipeline networks, German transmission system operators make an important contribution to ensuring safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective power supplies.
The energy transition and especially the gradual phase-out of nuclear energy by 2022 in combination with the ambitious development objectives for renewable energies is inconceivable without simultaneously expanding Germany’s power grids. The natural gas infrastructure also has the potential as a system to carry and store renewable methane produced from surplus electricity.
The transmission system operators draw up network development plans showing planned network expansions that will meet the changed requirements facing the gas infrastructure. The network development plans are based on the scenario framework confirmed by the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA).
