Installations carrying gas are subject to stringent safety requirements and are checked regularly for tightness. The procedure for locating leaks based on probe measurements is labour and cost intensive. Open Grid Europe has decades of experience in the operation of installations and their safety inspections. Together with the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, various international project partners from the gas sector and the manufacturer Esders GmbH, it has developed a technique for remote gas detection based on infrared radiospectometry.
The innovative device is called GasCam® and has become an essential component in our leak tightness inspection procedure. The technology enables the efficient inspection of above-ground installations. This imaging process significantly reduces the time needed for an inspection, particularly where piping systems are very complex with numerous detachable connection.
The GasCam® makes methane emissions visible as a false-colour image in real time on the screen of a laptop. It enables the operator to precisely pinpoint the source of the gas leak, even at considerable distances.
We not only perform the leak tightness inspection with the GasCam® as part of our own operations, we also offer it as a service to third parties.
